Day 19 of 365: The First 24 Hours, Changing My ‘Stats’ Setup, Weekly Weigh In

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][custom_headline type=”center” level=”h2″ looks_like=”h2″ accent=”true”]The First 24 Hours[/custom_headline][text_output]Well, I’m back at it again. Saturday night at Midnight I ran out of cigarettes, and haven’t smoked since.

Of course, it’s only Sunday, so it’s not exactly a stellar run towards quitting. But, I will say this time it feels a bit different. I’m considerably less stressed about it, and having just gone through 60 hours of it last week, I feel very prepared for what’s coming. See, the first 24 hours is bad, but not that bad. It’s when you get close to the end of day two that it gets back, that 48 hour mark begins a gradual change, heading away from the hardest portion of withdrawal and beginning the very first part of recovering. For anyone who’s seen the various infographics and articles, the amount of carbonmonoxide in the blood is starting to return to normal, the body begins trying to clean the lungs out, stuff like that. That’s interesting and all, it’s the part that happens to the brain that interests me the moment, and affects me the most.

Tomorrow is when it starts getting “fun”. ADHD has already started kicking in just a bit – particularly, being hyper off and on (though, that’s also common as a mania state with withdrawal anyways.) I’ll start kicking in on the rest of if tomorrow, and over the next couple of days it will become difficult to keep track of anything I’m trying to get done.

That was my fail point last time – I needed to be able to think to make a couple major decisions. This time, I’m leaning on my eCig pretty heavily – but, I can already tell you part of the problem isn’t just nicotine – there’s more to the addiction, and it’s going to require me try and learn a couple new focus tricks this time around.

I sort of look forward to it – I really want my warm feet back :-)[/text_output][custom_headline type=”center” level=”h2″ looks_like=”h2″ accent=”true”]Changing My ‘Stats’ Setup[/custom_headline][text_output]I mentioned many times that I’m a numbers geek, though not a math geek.  More like business and quantification geek – why I never got into stats, I’ll never know.

I like things that give me the visual feedback that numbers give (and, the representation systems of numbers, like graphs.)  I love using DDR as cardio because it’s fun, but it also gives me numbers for feedback – high scores, etc.  I use Fitocracy for the gamification, and for the sheer numbers – my workouts are given a score based on various attributes, all of which I like.

When I started the 365 Project, I started tracking stuff like smoking, workouts, and eating habits.  But, it was just simple text representations – there was no way of assigning a number to it.  Well, at least that’s what I was thinking at the time.  Then I added the graphs that exist on the front page of the site that help me – in theory – track my progress.  Of course, I’d actually have to update those for them to be effective.

And, well, I don’t update them because there’s no numbers to update.  Graphs for “fuzzy data” is hard to deal with.  Yesterday, I came up with an idea, and tomorrow I’ll be implementing it:  my “Today’s Stats” section will end up with a scoring system.

Cigarettes Smoked:  I used to be a pack a day smoker, so, I get points for how much I don’t smoke.  So, I assign 20 points for not smoking any, and remove one point for every cigarette I smoke.

Healthy Eating:  One point for each healthy meal, one point for not over eating at each meal, and one point for no unhealthy snacking, for a total possible 7 points.

Workouts:  One point for doing cardio, one point for doing muscle work, one point for stretching in the morning, one point for stretching in the afternoon, and six optional points for intensity / difficulty.  The harder the workout, the higher the score.

Projects worked on: doesn’t get any points, which is fine – it would be hard to score that, since my day to day schedule changes at a moments notice.

Tomorrow I’ll update the old posts (there’s only 19 to update), and then I can update the main page :-)[/text_output][custom_headline type=”center” level=”h2″ looks_like=”h2″ accent=”true”]Weekly Weigh In[/custom_headline][text_output]This week I weighed in at 227, up a pound from last week, down a pound from two weeks ago.  So, not a statistically significant change.

However, I didn’t manage to take any pictures this week, so I guess I missed out on that part.  Pretty much a zero for workouts this last week, and only two days without smoking.  Next week is another, better week :-)[/text_output][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][line][custom_headline type=”center” level=”h2″ looks_like=”h2″ accent=”true”]Today’s Stats[/custom_headline][text_output]

  • Workouts: 0 (Looking forward to re-starting that attempt next week)
  • Cigarettes Smoked: 10 (And looking forward to attacking this again tomorrow!)
  • Healthy Eating:  Good breakfast, MaGoo’s burger for lunch (unhealthy), and some home-cooked stuff that was a bit heavy on fat, but otherwise good.
