FrankenMac

It lives…

I love it when one of my personal projects goes well :-)  In this case, Heather’s 12″ powerbook had died a while after my 17″ powerbook had died.  After much cursing, a little blood (which had to be cleaned off the logic board – blood is conductive even when dried due to the high mineral content), and some serious head scratching, she now has a 17″ FrankenMac – a couple of parts from my powerbook, a couple of parts from hers.

Working on a notebook sucks.  But whoever was at Apple that designed the 17″ and 12″ powerbooks was a sadistic son of a bitch.  Even tho those two machines are within a year of each other, there is very little similar about the layout.  Taking apart a 17″ powerbook is hard work.  A 12″ powerbook is a study in frustration.  I needed the DVD driver out of the 12″ for the FrankenMac, and holy crap – you litterally have to remove everything including the logic board to take out the DVD drive!

Called Heather and told her the good news – she’s got a computer of her own again (I assume that Nick and Heather have no problems sharing one computer, but, two is always better than one 🙂

Now it’s time for some serious Battlegrounds in WoW.  I’ve got my first piece of epic level 70 PvP gear, time to try for the second 🙂

  1. ummm.. can we use the fact we only have 1 cell phone between us (and that it doesn't even have a camera, music or internet) to counteract a few spare computers?

Of course even then, I doubt we could get anyone to believe we're not geeks…
