So, I’ve got a personal blog I share with my friends, and I’ve got a blog for Taillefer Farms that covers my involvement there. But I keep wanting on just specifically for business and tech stuff.
And here it is. And there was much rejoicing (yay).
Some trivial bits about it…
This first entry is being done on my iPhone with the WordPress app. Not bad really, though it could stand to have a few more editing features added to it (I can do things with Safari on the iPhone that I can’t do with the app. Kinda makes this less useful than it should be, but does reduce the bandwidth overhead by not loading a lot of extra crap.)
The reason for using the iPhone to post isn’t for geek factor or anything, it’s because Cox Cable here in Wichita lost Internet access for my neighborhood just as I was finishing tweaking out the blog. Nice timing, guys. But it does make for a nice test of my “Blog Anywhere” sort of setup I’m trying for.
If you didn’t notice, this is a WordPress based system. I’ve been using Joomla for a lot of sites I do for customers, but I’ve been eyeballing using a CMS / blog system with a bit less overhead for certain situations.
Joonla is great. Unfortunately, Joonla is also a “everything and the kitchen sink” sort of approach to development. It supports a lot of stuff, but man… The last Joonla site I did was Joomla + Community Builder + Custom Modules I wrote. It weighed in at a hefty 450,000 lines of code (note for the geeks: whitespace removed, but comments were left in.). That’s just too large to something simple like a blog setup!
The blog here is also tied to my Twitter stream (which I don’t use a whole lot, but I plan on improving that soon.). That’s mainly a geeky “cause I can” sort of thing, rather than a needed feature.
Anyway, welcome to the new blog. Enjoy!

(Quick Update: Â just after publishing this, Cox finished fixing whatever they were up to this time. Â Again, nice timing guys.)
