The engine I’m making use of for Jumpman Forever has a decent community behind it. That gives you a great way to find answers to questions, of course, but the thing that’s really great is when people start extending the engine. The one I’m using makes good use of that, right down to the point that the core engine (not the editors, etc.) has been open sourced-ish.
Now that I’ve got Ouya stuff working properly in my own slightly modified copy of the engine, I’ve been backing my tweaks out so that I can package it up as a simple to install extension. Once I’m done with that, I’ll contribute it back to the community.
There’s some headaches with doing that, though – I’m going to present it without support (specifically saying, if you’ve got a problem, and read the directions, you’re on your own), but, people still expect support with it. Considering what all I’ve got going on, well, some of those requests will get ignored. I’ll wait until after the Ouya beta of Jumpman Forever has shipped, just to make sure it doesn’t conflict with the work ahead of me.
But, it’s sort of fun: by doing this, it gives a number of other developers the chance to support the platform, and it gives the engine another bullet point for marketing (which helps me in the long run – I’d like to stick with one cross-platform engine for quite a while, so I can focus on creating games, not re-learning a technology base.)[/text_output][custom_headline type=”center” level=”h2″ looks_like=”h2″ accent=”true”]Focusing An Image[/custom_headline][text_output]One of the work things I’ve had going on for a while now is further development on cloudPages.me, a cloud based file sharing platform.
It’s actually behind our planned schedule, but, we took some detours along the way. One of those is modifying it’s “image” considerably – in fact, we’ve re-done stuff like the logos, site layout, and more four times now. Ug.
Today, we met on it, and solidified it’s final front-page image. It’s different, but, I really like how it comes off 🙂 I’ve declared a 6 month hold on any further tweaking of the image package for it – no more logo changes, etc. I still need to modify the rest of the pages in the system to match it, but, that’s not too hard after the style of things are set 🙂
